AM Announcements - October 08

AM Announcements
October 08, 2008

1. Today is Day 32.

2. It is the mission of Speas Elementary School to provide its students with the tools necessary to successfully meet the challenges they will face in a diverse world.

3. Calendar items for this week:

Wednesday: October 08
Elementary Assistant Principal's meeting - 9:30-12:00 - Ms. Powell off-campus
Angela Smith meets with Dr. Reichert

Thursday: October 09
Dr. Martin visits Speas - 10:00-12:00

Friday: October 10
Picture Re-takes 8:00-12:00 PM - Gym

4. . Teachers have been given a challenge to have 100% staff participation for the PTA by tomorrow and they will receive lunch one day next week cooked by Dr. Reichert. We still have over 20 people who have not joined. Remember that if we as a staff cannot make the statement that "all" of us are behind the PTA, how can we expect our parents to get behind the organization. They do many wonderful things for us and "every" staff member benefits many times over the $3.50 investment. If you haven't joined, take care of that oversight today.

5. Picture re-takes are on Friday. Every staff member must have tyheir picture taken if they did not do it the first time. These pictures go on the safety CD and are essential.

6. The SIT Teams met yesterday afternoon. Please see your SIT representative for a complete breakdown of the discussion.

7. Dr. Martin visits tomorrow. He expects teachers to know their data and he would like to see something other than calendar when he visits classrooms. This should not be a problem since he won't be here until 10:00 AM. Don't go out of the ordinary. He wants to see you doing what you do best.

8. We received the following Service Desk Notice yesterday: Over the next few days you may notice a dialog box at login stating Computrace inventory software is being installed.
This is completely normal and you should allow the install to complete.

9. At the end of each day please take the following steps:
a. Turn off your TV
b. Log off your computers but do not shut them down
c. Turn off all monitors

10. There will be a student nurse at Speas on Fri. Oct. 10th to do BMI's for grades 1 and 4. If you have not scheduled a time please see Ms. Alston today.

11. Social Committee is still collecting dues for the 2008-2009 school year. Dues are $25 and can be paid in a single payment, or installments throughout the year. See Ms. Johnson to work out payment of your dues.

12. An ignorant person is one who doesn't know what you have just found out.
Will Rogers (1879 - 1935)

This paperback is very interesting, but I find it will never replace a hardcover book - it makes a very poor doorstop.
Alfred Hitchcock (1899 - 1980)

The effort to understand the universe is one of the very few things that lifts human life a little above the level of farce, and gives it some of the grace of tragedy.
Steven Weinberg (1933- )

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
Sir Richard Steele
