11. Please follow the directions placed in your box regarding the move to the pod. If you need more colored dots, just let Ms. Rhodes know and she'll provide them for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. All access to the pod will be from the Polo Park side of the building going around the corner at Ms. Larson's room. K and Pre-K classes on both sides of the back building should keep the walkways clear for use by classes/students going to and from the pod. All students entering the building should still go through the front doors, then outside to the back building and/or pod. We cannot begin moving into the pod until Duke Power connects the electricity and the Fire Department tests the fire alarms. Once that is approved we can begin occupying the pod. Yesterday's storms and the resultant damage may delay Duke Power. We will have to wait and see.
12. Mr. Ireland is out sick today. That leaves us with one custodian until our substitute arrives around 3:30.
Mankind have a great aversion to intellectual labor; but even supposing knowledge to be easily attainable, more people would be content to be ignorant than would take even a little trouble to acquire it.

5. We have experienced a major uptick in inappropriate student behavior. I know some is related to the proximity to Spring Break and some to the fact that it is testing week. We really need to keep things under a tight reign. The best thing we can do is plan exciting engaging lessons. These will help to keep children on-task and on-target as we close out the quarter. Remember to be proactive; anticipate possible problems; and respond before they become major issues.

If you weren't there, you missed it all! Ms. Powell will have COMP time coupons today for all classified staff members who attended and worked past their normal hours.

9. Move information: Yesterday at the job site meeting we discussed the move to the pod for rooms 21-28 with the exception of art. Here are few important things to remember:
a. ANYTHING not moved to the pod will be demolished. Therefore don't leave ANYTHING behind. I mean anything.
b. The move on the 29th will involve classes going to the gym for a designated period of time. During this time, their rooms will be moved and they will not return to them. They will go to their new rooms in the pod.
c. Room assignments for the pod are as follows: Smith - #1; Linhart - #3; Kooken #5; Smutek #7; Kelly - #2; Goliszek - #4; Dagenbach - #6. Rooms are numbered based on entering the pod from the current fifth grade side of the back building. Even numbered rooms on the right are 2, 4,and 6 with 6 being closest to the bath rooms. These rooms look out on the neighborhood. Odd numbered rooms are on the left with 1 near the entrance and 7 by the restrooms. These rooms look back toward the back building.
Yesterday afternoon I received an e-mail asking me to stay after the Move meeting to discuss the logistics of the move on 3/29. I will share that information with you on Monday in AM Announcements.

7. Since it is St. Patrick's Day, please make sure your students who do not have green on have something like a green shamrock or even a green piece of construction paper pinned to them so they don't invite other to pinch them. While the tradition's origins are murky, the wearing of green on St. Patrick's Day is really more of an American custom than an Irish one. Green is representative of the Catholic population in Ireland while orange represents the protestant population. Green is also the color of "the Emerald Isle." You can thank the Gulf Stream for this. Once it says good-bye to the North Carolina coast, it heads across the Atlantic and next touches land with its warm waters in Ireland. In some places the St. Patrick's Day celebrations actually differentiate by color, green or orange. Suffice it to say, on March 17, everyone is Irish and all can wear green.

5. Open enrollment for Health Insurcance coverage will impact ALL employees this year. They are automatically moving everyone down to 70/30 coverage from 80/20, so all employees who wish to maintain their 80/20 levels of coverage will HAVE to complete the open enrollment form. Since folks are starting to receive their packets in the mail, Human Resources is getting LOTS of questions. Here are answers to the three most common:
1) You MUST WAIT until March 15th to complete the open enrollment process. Open enrollment will run from March 15 to April 9, so everyone will need to electronically enroll between these dates.
2) You MUST complete the enrollment process electronically. There will be NO PAPER FORMS. We will have the link prominently displayed on the home page during the open enrollment period. Since this will require everyone to register and create a user name and password, we will be hosting some help sessions in the admin center IRC for those who need assistance with the process. The first will be next Monday, March 15th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. The second will be on April 5th -- same time and place. These will be drop in sessions, so employees don't need to be there promptly at 4:-00.
3) FOR TOBACCO USERS: The only way to be eligible for 80/20 coverage is if you sign an electronic attestation that you and your covered spouse/dependents either don't use tobacco, or are participating in a tobacco cessation plan. There are some detailed rules and potentially large penalties for tobacco users associated with this, so we are hosting information sessions for any employees who use tobacco or who have a covered family members that uses tobacco. These sessions are this week -- Thursday and Friday, March 11 and 12, from 5:00 - 6:00 PM in the admin center auditorium.
6. News from Student Council:
a. The Speas American Idol Talent Show would love to have staff participation. Please notfiy Mr. Cokley, Ms. Mincer, or Mrs. Fletcher if you would like to participate.
b. Please encourage your students to attend the show. The admission cost is a $1.00. There will be a hotdog and hamburger dinner before the show.
7. There are boxes in the front lobby for donations of cereal to Crisis Control Ministry. We will be collecting full unopened boxes throughout the month.
8. I will be off-campus this morning at Elementary Principals' meeting from 7:15-12:00. If you need office assistance, please contact Ms. Powell.
9. Tonight I will be attending the Operation Lamb Banquet sponsored by the Knight of Columbus at Holty Family Catholic Church. They will be presenting grants to schools with at-risk populations who have submitted grant applications. We submitted one for additional AR tests to enable us to close the gap between AR books in the media center and tets available on the computer. I will let you know the amount in the morning. This opportunity was brought to us by Barbara Bryant in the cafeteria and her husband Jerry.

HR will send an Alert Now to all employees about this today.

8. Rooms 21-28 should be in the final stages of packing and purging in preparation for their move to the pod which is 3 weeks away. If you need additional boxes, please let Mr. Ireland know so he can bring them to your room. All other classes in rooms 1-6A and 9-20 should be working on packing as well. You will be moving out immediately following the last day of school. A construction dumpster has been placed by the fence outside the door at the end of the hallway at rooms 27-28. Purge everything you haven't used in several years and toss it over the fence into the dumpster. It has been placed there just for your use.
9. YES, your students can play on the new playground! Please keep them away from the drain areas that are marked with stakes and silt fencing.
