5. We have not had good attendance at A's and Bees Tutoring so far. Second through fifth grade teachers, please think of two students who really need it based on first quarter performance and call their parents asking them to bring their child on Tuesday nights.
6. If your children sit at a given table or in the Honey Pot Cafe, please make certain that the tables are cleaned and the floor is swept when your class departs. Right now this is not happening and subsequent classes must clean up before they can sit down to eat. Also remember that the Honey Pot Cafe tables are meant for 4 persons, no more.
7. Great New!! Speas exceeded its United Way goal of $ 3,375 and its stretch goal of $3544. Staff members contributed $$3,660. Thanks to everyone, especially Ms. Clodfelter for such a successful campaign.

9. Blue Diamond data is now available as are the testing materials from the first quarter. Now is the time to address the issues identified by the the tests with your students. Look at your data and form targeted small groups to deal with specific issues. Research has shown that if all you do is go over the entire test with the entire class, you are wasting your time and there's. This is a time for giving them only what they need.
10. This is always a very difficult quarter for children. There are so many breaks, distractions and the excitement surrounding the holidays is pervasive. Think carefully about your assignments. Maintain your high standards and expectations, but remember what it was like as you anticipated the holidays.
11. A CD of Veterans Day activities has been placed in the media center. Please check with Ms. Childers if you would like to use it as we approach Veterans Day on November 11.
12. The Little Symphony of Forsyth County will be here on Wednesday to perform for our K-5 students in the gym from 9:00-9:45. Classes will be called by grade level once the symphony is set up and ready.
13. We want to welcome Mr. Ireland back. He has really been missed. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as his older brother has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Ms. Bryant talked with Gus over the break and and he is doing well. She said his voice had his old spunk back. That is truly good news. Continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as well. We don't know who Gus's substitute will be. We would love to have been able to keep Mr. Willie, but that is up to custodial services.
14. As I was walking up the stair I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. I wish, I wish he'd stay away.

9. Please bring the walk-through data you received yesterday to this afternoon's staff-development. I reviewed the comments some grade levels made about the last two month's data and have the following observation. I urge you to look at things more globally. Often times we focus on ourselves and how we relate to the items that are observed during walk-through's. While that is valuable, it is affects change in one room only. If we are to make systemic change it requires an understanding of what we do as an entire school.

9. The following came through by e-mail yesterday afternoon:
This is an important message about the professional days scheduled at the end of October and March. At the request of the Forsyth Principals' Association and after a majority vote by principals, we have switched the days so that the RSV days will now fall on Friday, Oct. 30, and Tuesday, March 30. If you have completed all tasks related to the end-of-quarter grading period, and your school does not require you to be present for training, you can use earned annual leave. In October, that means you could have a three-day weekend. In March, that means you will need to work on the RC day, Monday, March 29, and then you could be off the rest of the week, assuming inclement weather does not alter the calendar.
The calendar found online has been changed to reflect these new dates:
Reserved for Central Office: Oct. 29 and March 29
Reserved for school vote: Oct. 30 and March 30
Please ask your principal if you have questions.
10. Bids for our renovation must be submitted by 10/27 with construction to start in mid to late November. Ms. Powell and I toured the building with our construction folks and discussed the phasing of the project and how we would move around the building during construction. This will be a time for each of us to be flexible because there will be inconveniences we will have to live with.
11. Student Council will be selling Starbucks coffee out front for $2.00 a cup this morning. Don't for get to purchase yours and support our school.
12. An afternoon bus duty schedule will be handed out to the folks who work buses as soon as the new bus is added to our afternoon line-up.

5. An issue came up at SIT on Monday regarding the use of the lesson plan form. In order to address the issue and resolve some issues surround teacher schedules, I would like to meet with all teachers this afternoon after bus duty. Hopefully we will be able to find a resolution that addresses the information that is needed in a lesson plan and provides a format that is quick and easy to use. Please bring a copy of your class schedule with you to the meeting. We will be in the media center.
6. Dr. Martin now receives two reports every Monday. The first deals with classroom walk-throughs and the number performed by each school. The expectation is now 45 CWT's per week per school. The second is a listing of the computers that were left on at each school. The report identifies the location in the building of each machine left on. We had one computer on the last report and that was a machine on the laptop cart. Please keep up the good work in this area.
7. I have been asked to clarify questions surrounding the RC and RSV (vote) days occurring at the end of this month and in March. I will go into detail on this next Tuesday with all staff. At today's Joint Principals' meeting we determined that we would switch the position of the two days making Thursday, October 29 an RC day and Friday, October 30 an RSV. We will also switch the position of those days in March at the end of the third quarter. Please click on the link below and respond to the survey question. If you vote YES then you want to be able to take Friday, October 30 as annual leave if you choose. If you vote NO, then you do not want the option of taking annual leave on October 30. 10. Ms. badarin will offer a Smart Board workshop in her room on Thursday, October 22 from 2:40-3:40. Ms. Jewell will provide snacks.
11. I want to thank everyone for your help and support of our families last night. Some grade levels had lots of parents and others had none. That is reality, but you were there and prepared and the parents who attended were very appreciative of your efforts. I heard many say they would see us in November at the Reading night. Great job!
12. Ms. Powell will be off campus this morning at an EVAAS workshop.
13. The SAS Institute, which produces the EVAAS data for North Carolina has given us data on teachers and grade levels. Now they are able to produce it for schools. Our data shows that in 2008 and 2009 our school was Yellow, meaning Not Detectably Different from the state's expectation. The interesting things, however was that in 2008 we were at a -0.01 or 1/100th away from the state's expectation for our students. In 2009 we were +0.37. That means that we missed being green or 2 stadard deviations above the mean by 0.08 or 8/100ths of a point. Well done.
