5. Make It, Take It Math Night is tomorrow night. All certified staff should plan to attend.




6. Every grade level representative has been given a copy of the walk through data for the first month of school. This should be reviewed during your meetings this week. Please make observations regarding what you find and place them in your minutes. Future meetings will be deveoted to the planning to resolve the issues you find.

5. We are printing 3,6 and 10 day absence letters every Monday morning and sending them out to parents. Nothing defeats the purpose of these letters more than inaccuracies. Please be sure to update your attendance and tardies each day as directed by Ms. Fletcher. In that way we can maximize the effort to improve attendance and reduce tardies.

6. Yesterday I placed a student listing from EVAAS in the box of every fourth and fifth grade teacher. This is a listing of the students that were assigned to you in NCWISE last year. Please review it for any inaccuracies. We did not attach students to Ms. Chitty and Ms. Taylor last year in the same manner as we are doing this year. That is why they do not have sheets to verify. There is a sheet for reading and for math, two sheets total. Please make any corrections and return the sheets to my box. If there are no corrections, write "No Corrections" and return it to my box.

7. Each grade level/specialist group should select an individual that they believe could serve as the leader of their PLC and send the name to me by this afternoon at 3:30. From that group Ms. Powell and I will select two individuals to attend the training on September 29 at 8:00 AM. The two individuals who are trained by the systems will then come back and train the other PLC leaders selected by their grade level/specialist group. Following this training, all PLC will begin meeting formally during their planning time.

Following this training, all PLC will begin meeting formally during their planning time.

8. Student Council Information: The school year is finally underway and it is time to get the Student Council in place for the 2009-2010 school year. Below you will find the new guidelines for choosing officers and senate board members this year.

* Senate Board Members: Each classroom is to decide how they will choose one Senate Board for their class by Thursday, September 17, 2009. All names need to be turned in by noon that day to Mrs. Fletcher in room 3. The name needs to be listed on a sheet of paper along with teachers name and the child's signature which acknowledges that they accept the job. Each classroom will have two rep's. One is chosen by the classroom and the other will be chosen by the Student Council Committee. If you have someone else in your class that you think would be an asset to Student Council please turn in their names at the same time on a separate sheet of paper. All Senate Board Members will be announced to teachers on Monday, September 21, 2009 and then the parents will be notified.

Student Council Officers: These year the officers will be chosen solely based on recommendations and the committee. The officers to be filed and grade levels are listed below.
President - 5th Grader
Vice-President: 4th Grader
Secretary: 3rd, 4th, or 5th Grader
Treasurer: 4th or 5th Grader
Historian: 3th, 4th, or 5th Grader

We are asking for teachers to give recommendations for the following positions. It can be any grade level and even specialist. Everyone sees kids in different light and could see potential that someone else doesn't see. All recommendations need to be turned in no later than: Thursday, September 17, 2009 to: Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Fletcher, Mrs. Cathy Smith, or Mrs. Bushey.
The officers will be announced on Monday, September 21, 2009 to the staff and then parents will be notified.

Pastries for Grandparents: There will be a list placed in your box and schedule for those students assisting with this. This list will be placed in your boxes Tuesday morning

5. Teachers were asked to turn in the notes from parents indicating that they were not to watch President Obama's speech. To my knowledge, only one child had a note and she went to the gym and was supervised by Ms. Clodfelter. If there were other students, please send me an e-mail indicating this. I also need to know if there were any classes that did not have the speech on. We had the speech on in the cafeteria so classes that were there were able to watch.

6. The training for NCWISE Grade book will not be Thursday afternoon. We have asked for next Tuesday and are awaiting a response from technology.

7. One of the things we will give parents at the Gateway meeting next Tuesday is the EVAAS prediction for their child for both Reading and math in third grade and reading, math and science in fifth grade. Remember to discuss this as part of signing the PEP and emphasize the importance of tutoring as one intervention that can help change the prediction.

5. President Obama's speech to American public school students will be broadcast on C-Span, channel 20 on our TV system. If you have any students whose parents send in a written request that they not watch, please send them to the gym where we will supervise them until the speech is over. We will play the speech on TV in the cafeteria for those classes at lunch.

6. I went checking computers, monitors, speakers and copiers before the Labor Day Holiday and found 2 computer(s), 3 monitor(s), 0 speaker sets and 0 copier(s) left on overnight.

11. Last Friday, Speas was granted an additional Kindergarten class as a result of increased enrollment. We will begin working with HR to fill this position; outfit the classroom; create the class from our existing classes; and fit it into the existing schedule.

5. Today is picture day. Please follow the schedule that Ms. Powell provided on Monday regarding when your class comes to the gym. Should there be delays we will inform you. All students should be arranged alphabetically before you get to the gym. Remember to keep a list of all students who have paid for pictures. This is the teacher responsibility.

6. I went checking computers, monitors, speakers and copiers this morning and found 1 computer, 13 monitors, 2 speaker sets and the HIVE copier all left on overnight.

7. As I mentioned in yesterday's e-mail, the implementation of PLC's this year will not require an additional 45 minute meeting. We can do it in conjunction with our existing 80 minute time block for grade level planning. Specialists will have to increase their time from 40 to 45 minutes and this can be accomplished by beginning at 8:05 AM.

5. Please talk with your SIT representative regarding issues discussed in yesterday's meeting. I will notify you when the minutes have been posted to the shared volume.

6. Please remember to shut off all your computers every night. We have over 20,000 computers in the system and every night, an average of 3,600 are left on. It is your responsibility to check the monitor and CPU of every computer in your rooms to ensure that they are off before you leave each afternoon.

9. Speas is now on Facebook and Twitter. As a reminder, school board policy prohibits WSFCS personnel from being a "friend" to students, present or past. These two programs are for the dissemination of information only.

10. Mr. Michael Larson will be here after school on Wednesday, September 09, to meet with interested individuals regarding financial planning. Mr. Larson is with Primerica Financial Services. He will meet in the media center only with those interested.

11. The minutes of yesterday's SIT meeting have been placed on the shared volume in the Staffshare folder, SIT Minutes, 2009-2010.

12. We have the entire fourth and fifth grades out today at Quest Atlantis training along with teacher assistants from grades 1 and 2. Everyone needs to be on their toes with this many subs in the building. Step up and help them should they need assistance.
