1. Today is Day 34.

2. It is the mission of Speas Elementary School to provide its students with the tools necessary to successfully meet the challenges they will face in a diverse world.

5. Congratulations go out to Ms. Higgins whose hard work made Speas one of the forty-one schools that had every financial report completed correctly and turned in on-time. She was recognized by the Financial Department.

6. "The NED Show" items are on sale each morning in room #7 up until 7:55 AM. Many of the children came with insufficient funds. Please remind your students that the basic Butterfly Ned yo-yo sells for $6.50. The Boomerang Ned yo-yo sells for $10 and the Ball Bearing yo-yo sells for $15. All the accessories (a package of extra strings, the DVD's and holster sell for $3.50).

7. Ms. Badarin will offer a Smart Board workshop in her room on Thursday, October 22 from 2:40-3:40. Ms. Jewell will provide snacks.

8. We are still looking for 4-5 volunteers who would be willing to design a lesson plan format that would meet Speas needs and make things easier for staff members. The committee will report to Ms. Powell and the form they design will be the one we use. Send Ms. Powell an e-mail if you are interested. I have forwarded the e-mails that were turned in on Friday to her.

9. Appalachian State University is proposing to begin in the fall of 2010 a Master of Arts program in Curriculum Specialist on the campus of Surry Community College – Yadkin Center.
An informational meeting for this program is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th at 6:00 P.M. in Room 203 of the SCC-Yadkin Center.

10. Ms. Summey is out this morning. Ms. Powell is out all day. Please keep these things in mind when seeking assistance from the office.

11. We want to welcome Ms. Hoots and Ms. Merrill back today. Ms. Hoots foot is still healing but she is able to be back at work and will be operating out of Ms. Jewell's room. Ms. Merrill is returning from maternity leave.

12. Today at 8:30 AM representatives of the Department of Instructional Services, Toni Bigham and Title-1 will be here to do a peer review session. It begins at 8:30 and should last about 45 minutes. They may do classroom walk-through's following the session. Please continue on with your normal day/activities should they stop by your classroom.
