March 10, 2009

1. Today is Day 117.

2. It is the mission of Speas Elementary School to provide its students with the tools necessary to successfully meet the challenges they will face in a diverse world.

3. Calendar items for this week:

Rehearsal for "Really Big Night" - Per Mr. Baker's schedule

US Dept. of Education Research Study meeting - 11:00-12:30 - Ms. Powell off-campus
Leadership Winston-Salem - Education Day - Reichert off-campus all day

Thursday: March 12
Elementary Principals' meeting - 7:15-12:00
WS/FCS Policy Committee - 4:00-5:00 - Reichert off-campus
Book Fair

Friday: March 13
No events at this time. It is, however, Friday the 13th!

4. At the end of each day, please do the following:
a. CLOSE ALL BLINDS
b. TURN OFF ALL MONITORS and COMPUTERS (CPU's)

5. The final rehearsals for tonight's performance is this afternoon. Please refer to the schedule you received from Mr. Baker regarding times for your grade level.

6. Upcoming dates for your calendar:
a. March 18 - Dental Screening
b. March 19-26 - 3rd Quarter EOQ testing
c. March 24 - AR Benchmarks due
d. March 27 - Dollar Dress Down Day
e. April 1-3 - Spring Break

7. All students who attend "Really Big Night" with a parent will receive a coupon good for up to $5.00 on the purchase of books from the book fair. They will be able to select their books tomorrow.

8. If you receive notes regarding parents declining to have their children screened for dental problems, please keep them until after 3/18. On 3/19, please send them to Ms. Rhodes who will file them as a group.

9. There is no A's and Bees Tutoring tonight because of the Spring concert. It will resume next Tuesday. The tutors have been notified.

10. There is a staff meeting this afternoon at 2:40.

11. "Really Big Night" tonight is required for all certified staff members. Classified members who attend and work will be given compensatory time.

12. All elementary schools have been asked to have their fifth grade classes participate in Gallup Student Poll later in March. I have information on this that I will share with fifth grade teachers later this week. The poll itself should only take each child a few minutes. It might be best done during a session in the lab. 13. Hope Presbyterian is bringing breakfast for the staff on Thursday.

14. Wewill have sign-in sheets for parents tonight. These will be used to track which children are entitled to the $5.00 coupon in the book fair.
