1. Today is Day 108.

2. It is the mission of Speas Elementary School to provide its students with the tools necessary to successfully meet the challenges they will face in a diverse world.

Curriculum Coordinators' meeting - 8:00-4:00 - Marston off-campus

Author Susan Crummel visits Speas - 8:15-9:15 - gym (classes will not be called)
Jump Rope for Heart - 12:15 - gym - Ms. Alston directs

Thursday: February 26
WS/FC Science Fair - SciWorks

Friday: February 27
Box Tops for Education collected
4. At the end of each day, please do the following:
a. CLOSE ALL BLINDS
b. TURN OFF ALL MONITORS and COMPUTERS (CPU's)

5. Ms. Powell will be off-campus today from 10:00-1:00 picking up Susan Crummel at the airport and taking her to her hotel in Clemmons.

7. The Zone Choice period begins today and runs through March 6. Parents wishing their children to remain at Speas do not have to do anything. The child will be automatically assigned to Speas. If they desire to switch to one of the other schools in Zone 5, they must request a Choice Card from our office. The out-of-zone transfer period will follow later in the spring. Fifth grade students receive their Middle School Choice Packets today to take home.

8. If anyone asks you about registering for Kindergarten, remind them that beginning this year, children must turn five (5) on or before August 31.

9. We will be bringing our Art's Council Fund Drive to a close soon. Please help us to hit 100% in honor of Rose. We will only get there with your help. Thanks for considering our request. This is a gift that directly impacts every one of our students.

10. We had twelve students attend our Saturday Tutoring session. Third and Fifth grade teachers should really emphasize the importance of attending to their the students. Every little bit help build success.

11. Fifth grade students need to turn in their parent Surveys by Wednesday. We will pay students a $1.00 for bringing back a completed Parent Survey. Fifth grade teacher should advise the office if they have done the student surveys with their classes. If not, I would like to meet with all fifth grade students regarding this once the last second grade class has left the lunch room today.

12. Ms. Grisard is doing well following her surgery and we look for her to return as early as next Monday.

14. The collage above, In Monet's Garden, was done by Gerald F. Brommer a noted California watercolorist. He has exhibited in more than 300 solo and group shows throughout the United States and abroad during his illustrious fine art career. His work is represented in over 300 private and corporate collections worldwide. He was also my high school track coach.
