4. Our allotment conference on Friday generated more questions than it answered. Since the Board has not finalized and adopted its budget no cuts are a reality however. Over the course of the next few days I will be speaking with individuals who may be most effected should the latest round of proposed cuts be adopted in May. Suffice it to say that no allotment of personnel is being made by the assistant superintendents until the actual number of students spelled out in the allotment formulas has been reached. Also some allotment formulas have been changed with their thresholds set at higher levels. This means that some positions which have been allotted to all schools may be cut at some smaller schools. Ms. Bigham has asked Ms. Powell and me to keep her continuously updated on enrollment changes since changes here effect not only Speas but the schools these students previously attended. We'll talk more about this and all its implications following the Marzano staff-development on Tuesday.
5. Starting tomorrow, the US Census will be here providing training to census takers who will be going out into the neighborhoods around Speas and taking census information from those houselhold which have not responded. They will be in the gym Tuesday, 4/27 through Friday, 4/30 from 8:00-5:00. PE classes will be held outside or in the classroom if it rains.
6. Don't forget to turn in your pledge card for the UNCF drive. The new total is $675.00. Remember that the drive ends May 21, 2010.
7. Review Conferences for today are: None

10. Classroom Teachers, please remember to send me the number of students whom you are very certain will be retained at the end of the year.
11. Per Child Nutrition, Speas WILL NOT house a summer feeding program for the summer of 2010.
12. Teachers currently in rooms 1-2 and 4-6 should be sure to pack up their rooms before they leave for the summer as they will be moving at the beginning of the new school year and there won't be time to do it then. Some of these classes will be moving to new rooms in the back building and others will be going to the pod. The Boy Scouts will also be using these rooms for their Summer Camp June 21-25.

7. Therel be a special presentation on August 16, 2010, for Equity+ schools. Following the presentation by Principal Baruti Kafele, each school will provide two presentations on programs that are working for children. Here is what Carol Montague, the Assistant Superintendent for Middle Schools, says about this:
"As you know we are getting ready for the Equity+/Title 1 Conference on August 16th. For this conference to be a success, we need your help!
I know that each of you or some of your staff members have great ideas to share with other. So, please complete the attached proposal and email it to Cydney by April 30th.
Each school is required to submit two proposals , but more are welcome:)
Let's make this conference a meaningful experience by sharing instructional strategies with each others!
I will send an e-mail with the proposal form. Please consider sharing the great things you are doing with children. Proposals may be sent in by an individual, pair, or group (grade level).
8. There is No Classified Intent Form this year because classified employees can promote during the school year and with HR and Assistant Superintendent approval they can also transfer.
9. It appears that someone has taken laminating into their own hands. Almost an entire roll of laminating film was used recently and Ms. Rhodes was not the user. She changed the roll the last time she laminated and when she checked yesterday, the roll was almost empty. Ms. Rhodes is the only individual on staff who is designated to do lamination. If you have items to laminate, please give them to her. She will take care of them and you can pick them up in the media center. I trust this will be the last we have to say about this matter.

Currently Speas participation rate is at 72.34% with 34 of 47 individuals responding. If you have not responded, please do so today and get this out of the way. The last day is Friday and all schools are expected to be over 90% at that time.

• Click on the red “Employees” tab
• Under the “Administration” heading, click on the link for “WSFCS Administrative Resources”
• In the right hand column under “Employee Related Data Entry”, click on the link “Teacher Notification of Intent Decisions”
• Log in like you would to register for a workshop

We still have 7 certified employees who have not responded. Please take care of this by Friday when the window closes.

7. Today we begin the new afternoon dismissal pattern. We need everyone to be alert for safety and assistance.
Afternoon:
Buses: Buses will enter the parking lot at the middle entrance by the gym and park along the sidewalk. No buses will park along the breezeway. Teachers will take their bus riders to the gym and exit the end doors. Teachers will escort the children up the sidewalk dropping them off at their buses. Teachers will then move to the breezeway to assist with car dismissal.
Cars: Parents picking up students who ride home in cars will enter the parking lot by the Polo Park entrance in the same manner as they drop children off in the morning. Cars will be directed by a staff member to form two lanes of traffic for student pick up. Approximately 12 cars will be loaded at one time. None of these cars will be allowed to depart until all twelve are loaded. This group of cars will then exit the parking lot using the Polo Park exit. The school crossing guard will block traffic as needed to enable cars to turn on to Polo Rd. Safety is the most important thing in this pattern. We are ask all parents to be aware of all students and staff members and to be patient.
8. As we approach the end of the school year, with all the testing that will be taking place, I want to remind staff members that NO petty leave or annual leave will be granted by either Ms. Powell or me on a day when testing takes place until after all testing is over. Petty, parental and annual leave require principal or assistant principal at least five days in advance of the desired date. Do not schedule appointments with either the doctor or the dentist during testing times on testing days. If you have already scheduled an appointment, please let Ms. Powell or me know immediately. Then contact your doctor's office to see if it can be changed.

8. Next Monday we will begin a new afternoon dismissal pattern with Bus riders going to the gym and car riders going to the breezeway outside the main entrance. The specific directions for this are listed below:
Afternoon:
Buses: Buses will enter the parking lot at the middle entrance by the gym and park along the sidewalk. No buses will park along the breezeway. Teachers will take their bus riders to the gym and exit the end doors. Teachers will escort the children up the sidewalk dropping them off at their buses. The school crossing guard will block traffic as needed to enable cars to turn on to Polo Rd. Safety is the most important thing in this pattern. We are ask all parents to be aware of all students and staff members and to be patient.
This change is necessitated by the closing of the lower parking lot by the general contractor. It will remain closed through the completion of the renovations in July of 2011. Staff members will no longer be able to park between the lower and middle entrances to the property. Staff members will also not be able to park along the sidewalk in the Polo Park section of the upper parking lot as this will be used to load students in the afternoon. Obviously, parking will be at a premium. We will use the grass by the Speas sign for parking. Ms. Powell and I calculated that we have room for 12-15 cars in that area. Understand that it will be interesting and confusing at times. We all need patience and the ability to roll with the punches.
WE WILL PRACTICE THIS MOVEMENT WITH A WALK-THROUGH TODAY AT 1:45 PM.
