9. We have received the OK to begin spending our additional allotment of Title-1 funds as of tomorrow. Ms. Higgins is in the process of ordering the SmartBoard for Ms. Heyland's class ($3,791); the touch screen for Ms. Holman's class ($272); math tutoring materials for Ms. Spaventa ($2,000); New books for the library ($3,624); and eight document cameras to complete the deployment in all classrooms ($4,654). That leaves approximately $18,500 to be spent on tutoring for students who do not qualify for Grade 3/5 at-risk tutoring. Therefore, I am in need of individuals who would be willing to work after school Monday-Thursday providing homework and tutoring assistance to students in grades K-5. We will not be able to offer snacks as Title-1 will not pay for them, but we can offer the homework assistance so badly needed and provide time for students to use SuccessMaker via the Mobile lab. We would also like to open up tutoring on Saturday mornings. We will discuss the "how" of all of these initiatives tomorrow at Staff Meeting.
11. There will be a 4 hour Title-1 Comprehensive Needs Assessment training here in Winston-Salem on Saturday, February 27 from 9:00-1:00. Interested members of the SIT team should let me know if they would like to attend. It pays a $75 stipend.
12. I am in need of someone to cover A's and Bees Tutoring tomorrow night. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know.
13. There is a sign-up sheet in the mailroom to take food or groceries or a meal to Rose and Amber. Ms. Clodfelter will cover this coming week, February 8. Below is a list of foods that they eat. Many of the laptops are not holding a charge any more, especially if they are used more than once during the day. This may make using them for tutoring difficult. Would it be possible to use some of this money for replacement batteries for them as well as headphones? You cannot do math successmaker without hearing it and it makes it very distracting for kids sitting next to each other.
We will check with Title-1 first thing Monday morning and see if we can reallocate a portion of the funding associated with tutoring and apply it to batteries and headphones. We have almost $16,000 designated to cover tutoring. That number was determined including the entire month of January. Since the money was not available to spend in Janauary, the amount we designated for that month could well be applied to the batteries and head phones. It would be more than enough to cover them. If not we will have to look for another way to pay for them, perhaps from our money market fund.
2 things...
1. Would it be possible to purchase headsets for the laptop cart in addition to the batteries. I am not sure that is the entire problem with the charging problem but it would help.
2. Rose has asked us to ask everyone if they have any days they would be willing to donate to her. She is completely out of sick days, leave days and I believe she said extended sik leave. She is not eligible for disablity until she has been out for 6 months so that hasn't kicked in yet either. Anything would be a help. She said that the folks from Ashley have said that she qualifies for this now unlike the last time when her disablity overlapped into the end of her times.
Thanks,
Cathy
1. We are exploring how we can purchase both the batetries and the headsets at this time.
2. We placed the information about Rose needing donated Annual Leave days earlier, but will put it back in. We checked with HR and they approved this. They had denied it last year but said that this year she meets the criteria.
