1. Today is Day 110.

2. It is the mission of Speas Elementary School to provide its students with the tools necessary to successfully meet the challenges they will face in a diverse world.

5. The Statewide Tornado Drill will take place on Wednesday March 3rd at 9:30 am. The tornado drill will be broadcast over NOAA Weather Radio and will activate the State`s Emergency Alert System including local radio and cable stations. Please make sure that you have practiced with your class prior to the drill. Students will only be kept in the cover position until we can verify everyone has done so. Then we will allow everyone to sit up and wait for the end of the drill.

6. The final day to bring books for the African Book Project is today.

7. Last night Tierra Wilson was honored by the Winston-Salem Human Relations Commission at their annual awards banquet. She was accompanied by her parents , Ms. Clodfelter and me. Diego Hernandez was recently honored by the Sertoma Club for his drawing about freedom. He was accompanied by his parents and Ms. Chitty. Finally, Natalia Casas was given the honor of reading a essay she wrote and was pictured in the paper.

8. You can still sign-up in the mailroom to take food or groceries or a meal to Rose Rusch and Amber. Rose has reached the limit for donated days. She can not accept any more. Special thanks to everyone who contributed.

9. For the next two months, your check will not contain your social security number . At the end of the two month period, the social security number will be replaced with a new specific employee number. This is being done to protect all employees from identity theft.

10. It is very important to have a home number or your cell number correct in Human Resources. If your number changes please update it yourself or see Mrs. Higgins and she will do it. On the other hand, this also means you WILL RECEIVE the automated alert message everytime of a school delay or closing. According to Human Resources there is a school policy out there regarding this issue.
 
11. We will begin our afterschool tutoring/homework assistance this Wednesday. Those involved should receive a schedule and other information on Manday. I will meet with those involved who can attend on Monday afternoon from 2:40-3:00 in the media center. I will arrange individually to get together with those who can't attend.
