To find out more and to register, log on to: http://www.teacheracademy.org/

6. PTA is sponsoring a breakfast for the staff on December 15. Come hungry!

7. Student Council Items:

* The Student Council would like to thank the entire staff for their contributions and support with the "Holiday Can Food Drive." We were able to donate 739 cans to the Winston Salem Rescue Mission. We wish we could do something special for the entire school for their hard work but limited funds will not allow us. Thanks again for working together to do for others.

* The holiday door contest is quickly approaching so don't forget to start working on your door ideas.

* This year we will be collecting pennies for the Samaritan Ministries. We chose a local organization, because we wanted to help a group that at some time or another has provided services for our students. The campaign will begin on Monday, November 23, 2009 - Friday, December 5, 2009. We will supply each class with a jar label to be placed on a jar that you display in your classroom. We do not have to count the pennies before we turn them in, which makes the collection process easier. Each day during the campaign there will be penny trivia on the morning broadcast. Our goal is to collect 50 1bs. of change that would provide 50 meals and five nights of shelter. The student council kids will be visiting the Samaritan Ministries on Thursday, November 19, 2009 during the school day. After their visit they will need to be allowed to speak to your class on Friday, November 20, 2009 for five to ten minutes to share with their classmates the need for the Samaritan Ministries.

* Thank you to all the teachers for donations for the Samaritan Ministries items for the month.

8. Please make sure that your lesson plans are left on your desk each evening when you leave school.

9. Construction can begin at any time now according to the plan. It must be started by 11/30. It will be important to pay close attention. The following work is part of Phase 1: Construction begins on the new media center/cafeteria/kitchen addition; a pad is poured behind the school for the pod; rooms 21, 23-28 and the fifth grade bathrooms are renovated; construction fencing is put up surrounding the project and a new route from the building to the playground is established.

10. Criticism is prejudice made plausible.
H. L. Mencken (1880 - 1956)

A good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute. He may not seem such a good friend after telling.
Arthur Brisbane, "The Book of Today"

I can win an argument on any topic, against any opponent. People know this, and steer clear of me at parties. Often, as a sign of their great respect, they don't even invite me.
Dave Barry (1947 - )

The only thing that scares me more than space aliens is the idea that there aren't any space aliens. We can't be the best that creation has to offer. I pray we're not all there is. If so, we're in big trouble.

Why is the expectation suddenly again that we leave our lesson plans on our desk at night when we leave? I thought this was one of the reasons that we were emailing them each week to Becky.

The expectation has always been that lesson plans would be left on the desk at the end of the day. If you will remember when we discussed the concerns about the lesson plan format, one of the reasons individuals did not want to turn in lesson plans was because they were left on the desk at the end of the day. Staff members said that administrators should check lesson plans on the desk rather than have teachers turn them in. Not everyone is e-mailing lesson plans. Some grade levels wanted to be able to write them by hand. Since each grade level developed their own format, this was allowed. We have had several instances in the last two weeks where lesson plans were either, not available when the sub arrived or there were no plans at all. In one case, the absent staff member e-mailed plans later. In the other, the staff member came to school and provided plans for the sub. I would be interested in discussing what the concern is with leaving plans available on the desk.

I do not recall us ever given a choice of turning in lesson plans. The last information we received was to have lesson plans turned in by 7:30 Monday morning.
