1. Today is Day 54.

2. It is the mission of Speas Elementary School to provide its students with the tools necessary to successfully meet the challenges they will face in a diverse world.

5. The fire alarm yesterday was a result of a staff member placing something in the microwave and then leaving it unattended. In this case it appeared that either the time ran out or the microwave shut itself off. It did burn the contents of the package being heated and created smoke which registered with the alarm outside in the hallway. If you are going to use the microwaves, please remain with the food until it is done. Students and staff are to be commended for the speed with which the evacuated the building. I appreciate your attention to the safety of our students.

6. On a related matter, the gate to the playground was locked which hampered the exit of classes during the evacuation. The gate was unlocked that morning for a specific reason which means someone else locked it back. Our best guess is that a student thought it would be funny. Regardless, please remember to take your keys with you when you exit for a drill or evacuation. All certified staff have been issued a key that fits the MasterLocks on both gates.

7. if you have not given a list of your Honor Roll recipients to Ms. Rhodes, please do so today.

8. Ms. Higgins is out sick today. Please keep this in mind when making requests from the office.

I like an escalator because an escalator can never break, it can only become stairs. There would never be an escalator temporarily out of order sign, only an escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience.
