September 24, 2008

1. Today is Day 22.

2. It is the mission of Speas Elementary School to provide its students with the tools necessary to successfully meet the challenges they will face in a diverse world.

3. Calendar items for this week:

Wednesday: September 24
Principal of the Year - Finalist Selection - 1:00-3:00 PM - Reichert off-campus

Thursday: September 25
SAT Staff Development - SAT Team members
WINGS Volunteer Training - 8:00-9:00 AM

Friday: September 26
Dollar Dress Down Day

4. Please be careful when carrying hot/cold drinks down the hallway. Mr. Ireland came over on the weekend to buff the hallways and there is a trail of coffee drips running u[p and down the halls from the cafeteria.

5. This Friday is Dollar Dress Down Day. Please talk this up with your students. The money raised goes a long way toward funding student council and PTA projects.

6. The PTA Membership dues are $3.50 per person. You can see Ms. Fletcher who will be happy to help you.

7. Dr. Martin has scheduled his visit to Speas on 10/9 from 10:00-12:00. He will be visiting classes and discussing data.

8. Social Committee dues are still being collected. About half the staff has paid their dues. The Social Committee does many wonderful things for all of us. We need your support because you benefit. Social Committee dues are $25 for the year.

9. If you are interested in earning a Masters Degree in Reading, ASU is holding two meetings to discuss program information. They are at the Yadkin Center - Room 202, 4649 Hwy 601 in Yadkinville, NC at 4:30 PM or UNC School of the Arts, Work[place West V (5) - Room 113 at 1922 S. Main St., Winston-Salem at 7:00 PM. Both sessions are this Thursday, September 25th.

10. Certified staff should remember to put October 2 on their calendars. This is "Make It, Take It" night and attendance is mandatory. This item has been in Bee Lines for several weeks and on the master calendar since mid-August. There should be no questions regarding attendance.

11. I will be off-campus today from 1:00-3:00 working with the Principal of the Year Selection Committee.

12. A display from Books are Fun is in the media center. The order will be called in today and delivered on Friday.

13. Ms. Powell has developed the afternoon bus duty schedule and Ms. Rhodes has placed it in teachers boxes. The teachers on duty are to load students on bus #175 and #74.

14. We have filled the vacant fourth grade position with Ms. Sara Kelly. She should join us later on in the week.

15. A motion to adjourn is always in order.
